Canada Student Visa

Over the years, Canada’s popularity as a study destination for overseas students has been growing. Every year, over 130,000 students opt for studying here amid its picturesque locations. Apart from the high standard of education in Canada, students are provided with several benefits such as the freedom to work on campus.

A Canadian student visa is granted as a temporary immigration service. Students are obliged to leave Canada once its tenure expires. However, a Canada Student Visa is not the gateway to obtaining citizenship.

To give international students more protection against fraud and to make them more responsible in the visa system, the Canadian government has announced some important changes for student visas. They are:

  • To maintain their legal status in Canada, all student visa holders will have to be enrolled at a course or program at a particular institution in Canada.
  • It will be the duty of provincial governments to handpick those institutions that can accept international students. Students enrolled at these institutions will be able to obtain Study Permits.
  • These institutions will need to report to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and the provinces and territories on enrollment of international students.
  • Students who attend courses at designated educational institutions will be allowed to obtain Work Permits.
  • Full-time students who pursue academic, vocational or professional courses leading to a certificate, degree or diploma will be eligible for a Work Permit. These students will also be allowed to work off-campus for not more than 20 hours each week without a Work Permit.

Requirements for a Student Visa:

Depending on your nationality and the duration and type of study you are enrolling for, you may require the following:

  • A visa
  • Student authorization
  • Student authorization and visa
  • Neither

For a Student Visa to Canada, you need the following:

  • Acceptance to study at an approved Canadian school
  • Original letter of acceptance to the study program of your choice in Canada
  • Your letter of introduction given by the Canadian visa office, and supporting documentation that proves that you can financially support your study and stay in Canada and have enough money for your transportation back home. You will also need to prove that you have $10,000 CDN per year for your expenses, in addition to your tuition fees for each academic year.
  • A non-refundable fee for your study permit or student visa and proof of this payment.
  • Police certificate of good character
  • Medical examination that proves that you are in good health. It should not be more than six months old at the time of applying.
  • Fingerprints and photograph should be taken in order to apply for a study permit costing CDN $85.
  • You should be able to convince the Canadian immigration official that you will leave Canada once you finish the course.

Hand over the above documentation to the officials at studyandworkabroad.com. After the relevant officer scrutinizes your application, you will receive your Canada student visa.
