Awards
The following are some of George Brown’s awards and honours:
2015:

• Jewellery Arts professor Paul McClure received a Saidye Bronfman Award as part of the 2015 Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts.
• The Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences at Waterfront Campus won a Good Design is Good Business Award from Architectural Record magazine and a Canadian Green Building Award.
• Alumnus Jerry Gou won a City of Toronto International Student Excellence Award in the entrepreneurship category.
• Alumnus Benjamin Valliquette Kissell won a Premier’s Award in the recent graduate category.
• George Brown College was named the top research college in Canada, according to Research Infosource annual rankings.

2014:

• George Brown College named one of the Top 100 Employers in Canada for 2015—the only college to make the list.
• George Brown College named one of Greater Toronto’s Top 100 employers.
• George Brown College achieved gold status as a Smart Commute Employer.
• George Brown College President Anne Sado named one of 2014’s Top 25 Women of Influence and inducted into the Women’s Executive Network Top 100 Hall of Fame.

2013:

• George Brown College President Anne Sado appointed Member of the Order of Canada.

2012:

• George Brown College President Anne Sado named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women by Women’s Executive Network for second time in three years, and was also honoured as 2012 YWCA Woman of Distinction.
• The Waterfront Campus has been awarded: Toronto Construction Association’s Best of the Best in the large building category, a Brownie award for Excellence in Brownfield Remediation, and was a finalist for the Globe Awards for Environmental Excellence

Campus Locations
The central locations of our three campuses — St. James, Casa Loma and Waterfront—provide many benefits for our students. Here are a few examples:

• Arts, Design and Information Technology students learn in a Canadian cultural centre with access to the city’s agencies, galleries, theatres and studios
• Business students at St. James Campus study blocks away from Bay Street in Toronto’s Financial District
• Hospitality and Culinary Arts students at St. James Campus have access to some of the country’s top chefs and restaurants and get to put their skills to use for customers in downtown Toronto at The Chefs’ House, Chef on the Run and our student-run café
• Nursing and Health Sciences students at the Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences at the Waterfront Campus attend classes a relatively short distance from a high concentration of research and teaching hospitals

Simulated Work Environments
George Brown’s has state-of-the-art facilities that allow students to develop their skills in labs that are modelled after real workplaces:

• ASL (American Sign Language) lab Open New Browser Window: this lab allows students to practice sign language interpretation with specially-designed computer hardware and software.
• Centre for Construction & Engineering Technologies: this facility features a number of workplace-modelled labs with industry-standard equipment, from tool and die workshops to a computer networking lab.
• The Simulation Centre: Health Sciences students learn in a recreated hospital setting that includes high-fidelity mannequins as patients.
• The School of Design: this facility was developed to mirror the real-world agency and studio environments our students will experience in the working world.

Employer Connection
Learn from instructors who are experts in their field, and eager to share their industry experience and knowledge. Students have the opportunity to network and learn with our industry partners, who engage in applied research projects and field education placements.
